More student-produced video

Below is the second installment filmed and produced entirely by Webb students. Thanks again to James for the film editing and to Jack, Louis, Keith and James for their tour de force at Mt. High.

Skiing and Snowboarding at Mt. High

Though we haven't had a lot of snow this year, two vans of students took advantage of the most recent storm to test their limits and try new tricks at Mt. High. Below is a video filmed by two of them, James and Keith. They appear in the video in the following order: Jack, James, Louis, Stir, and Keith. Special thanks to James for spending several hours editing his footage into this clip.

Skiing and Snowboarding at Mt. High

Even in the midst of a winter storm, four Webbies headed to the slopes of Mt High for an extreme day of skiing. Tommy, Kyle, Lichi, and Claire got the most of the fresh powder, courtesy of Ms. Schnupp's driving prowess. Sadly, the conditions didn't allow too many pictures, but you get the idea from this shot of them leaving the school van:

Skiing/Snowboarding at Mammoth

Webb's annual trip to Mammoth was greeted by almost perfect conditions, having received a fresh layer of snow shortly before arrival, and clear, warm weather while skiing. This is the third year in a row that Ms. Bauman has taken students on a weekend trip, so many thanks for her organization and enthusiasm. Some of her fondest memories from this year's trip:

1. Summer and Emily getting up at 6:00 am to make breakfast for everyone two days in a row (cinnamon rolls and bacon on Day 1, pancakes and sausage on Day 2).

2. When more advanced skiers helped others, waiting for them on the slopes, teaching them new skills, cheering on improvements, and (of course) laughing at mistakes.

3. Harrison eating Kix while sleeping on the van ride home.

4. Lindsey's comment on the last day of the trip: "The best part of the trip every year is getting to know new people. It's better than going with all your friends because you make new ones."

Skiing/Snowboarding at Mountain High

A repeat performance of last weekend's trip was in order as the base layer of snow was still deep, and many students wanted an encore. Sunny skies and 50-degree temperatures greeted us at Mt. High, where we scattered in different directions to take advantage of the resort's three groomed areas, countless trails for all levels, and even trick parks. We were lucky to run into a freestyle jump competition, which we heard was a qualifier for nationals. There were skiers doing back flips and 360-degree twists and all kinds of other fancy jumps with crazy names that I don't remember. There was some skill among us as well, as Jack and Nick attacked the Olympic bowl several times, a near vertical incline that looked more like a cliff than a ski slope. Several of our skiers also enjoyed the numerous rails placed around the park, caroming off them with vigor. As for me, I stayed in the beginner areas, venturing out every now and then for a few photos and a strained abdomen.

Neville, Tommy, Ryan, Claire, Daniel, Adrian, Brandon, Lichi, Harrison, Nick, Jack, and Ms. Fisher enjoyed the picture-perfect day.

Nick lands a jump backwards. If I tried this, I'd be covered in snow and then air-lifted.

Ms. Fisher launches. If I had snapped this shot a split second later, you'd have seen her 15 feet in the air. Bad timing.

The Catalina Run, at the top of the East resort, offers views to the island on a clear day, and to these mountains in the background. A spectacular backdrop for skiing for me, Adrian, Ryan, and Daniel.

Skiing/Snowboarding at Mountain High

Snow has been falling in copious amounts on the mountains around the school this year, and we're making the most of it. Two vanloads of students hit the hills on Sunday, along with hundreds of others, at Mt. High. No fewer than six ambulances and two airlifts were spotted that day, but luckily none were for us. It was so popular, we're taking another trip next weekend!
